Where Are You Heading

It was my final year in high school and it must have been around 5:45 pm on a Friday afternoon when Isabella and I sat out on the lawn as we waited for the school supper. We began a casual conversation about the fast approaching A -level exams when she turned and asked me the dreaded question. “So Angie, what are you going to be in the future?” Once again I was forced to confront a question I had been avoiding most of my young adult life. “Surely, at 18 years old I should have had a clear answer to this question” so I thought to myself. “What on earth do I want to do with my life?” I questioned myself silently but still, the answer never seemed to come.

That was eleven years ago and having gone on to study Information Technology and work in the IT and telecommunications sectors , I can honestly say it is only now that I have began to discover what I really want to do with my life.

From Simple Truths - Success is the intentional, pre-meditated use of choice and decision. Unless you choose—with certainty—what it is you want, you accept table scraps by default!

From Simple Truths - Success is the intentional, pre-meditated use of choice and decision. Unless you choose—with certainty—what it is you want, you accept table scraps by default!

The world is plump with opportunity. With boldness and conviction, stick a fork into the GOALS you want by being decisive.

You are born with great capabilities, but you will not achieve your potential until you call upon yourself to fulfill it. You will rise to the occasion when it presents itself; yet, to assure self-fulfillment, you must provide occasions to rise to.

Clearly defined goals allow you to travel toward another horizon that represents the end of one experience and the transition to a new and better existence.

My personal story

Almost four and a half years ago, like most 26 year olds, life seemed to be fairly good. I had a job, great friends, amazing family, could afford to pay bills, so I could honestly say that I was fairly happy with the life I had created for myself. However towards the last quarter of 2006 I started to develop a nagging pain in my lower back. I did not think anything of it and simply resorted to taking mild pain killers whenever the pain really got to me. After all, what should I expect when I sit in front of the PC all day?

However, by the end of December the pain had started really becoming more than the usual nagging pain and the mild pain killers did not seem to have the same effect they previously had. So I made a decision to pay the doctor a visit right after I had had my very Merry Christmas.

Hello. My name is Darlene Whitehurst and I am a goal.a.holic.

I think everyone has a form of “holic” in them. Let’s face it; we are all addicted to something. My addiction just happens to be setting goals... (ok...sequins and stilettos, too!).

My addiction became evident back in my 30’s. It took me years to admit it; I was in denial about it in the beginning. It all started with just a few goals at a time, typically on the weekends. Over time, I began setting goals during the week. Before I knew it, I was goal-setting first thing in the morning until late in the evening hours and on the weekends. My addiction was not limited to just one form of goal- setting; any form sufficed...as long as I got my fix.
